Even subtle distractions keep us from living our lives to their greatest potential.
In our urgent world, there are distractions everywhere especially for entrepreneurs. Between our business, co-workers, cell phones, email refresh syndrome, chaotic work environment, social media, putting out fires, and mistaking busyness for productivity, we simply don’t make enough time for ourselves. Even some of the smallest distractions keep us from living our lives to their greatest potential. We have to learn to safeguard our attention span and avoid distractions so we have some time for self-love and personal growth.
It’s hard to talk about self-love these days without raising eyebrows and coming across as a self-absorbed narcissist. You are a wonderful creator. That is what you are here for but alas so few people ever get a glimpse of this truth. When you start to set aside on a daily basis, quiet time for yourself, you’re better able to care for others and reach your goals. You become connected to you higher self, you feel more empowered, and you clear the clutter which stands between you and your truest self.
Are We Like the Conditioned Elephant?
Fear of Failure is a huge limiting belief and very prevalent with many entrepreneurs.
Most of us have seen television documentaries or read stories about how elephant trainers control huge animals in captivity. When elephants are very young and much smaller trainers use a rope to tie them and to hold them from walking off. As they grow up and become very powerful, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.
Limiting beliefs are those which constrain us in some way. Just in believing things we become conditioned not to do or say the things that they inhibit. Limiting beliefs are often about our selves and our self-identity. Limiting beliefs interfere with many aspects of our lives. There are all kinds of limiting beliefs that stop us from succeeding. Fear of Failure is a huge limiting belief and very prevalent with some entrepreneurs.
Limiting beliefs can show up in lots of different ways and if the limiting belief is something that you developed as a child, it grows up with you into an adult-sized limiting belief system. In order to succeed and clear your limiting beliefs, you have to make small gradual changes to these behaviors or thoughts. You have to start by creating the reality you want and rewire your brain. Neuroscientists have discovered the strategy for rewiring the brain which includes,
- Identify the beliefs that support your intention
- Embrace your positive emotions
- Visualize images that align with accomplishing your goal
- Take actions that support your intention
- Learn to quiet your mind with meditation
These mind-chattering gremlins
We all have that chatter inside our head going on trying to reinforce our limiting beliefs.
To make things worst we have that chatter inside our head going on trying to reinforce our limiting beliefs. The good news is that with a little practice and discipline, you can avoid succumbing to these mind-chattering gremlins and stop them right in their tracks. You have to learn to challenge your thoughts and those nagging little talks going on in your head. The easiest thing to do early on, is to simply say “stop” when you feel these self-limiting voices in your head or find yourself exemplifying old behaviors, and refuse to let these take hold. A leading author and spiritual leader, Michael A. Singer wrote a book, “The Untethered Soul” that talks a lot about this. He calls that inner voice an unwanted roommate.
